This Week in History (Well, at least over the past few years)

This is what my back yard looked like on the 25th of October 2011.

Typical fall day.
Leaves mostly gone.
Still some grass.
Sunny. Partly cloudy. Temps in the 50's.
Nice day.

This is what my back yard (same back yard, different pond) looked like just a few days later on October 31st 2011.

Leaves are mostly gone.
Dreary. Dull.
Grass covered in white.
Temps in the 30's.

This is what we call typical Upstate NY fall weather.
Wildly unpredictable and rather annoying.

This is another shot of my back yard on October 31st 2010.

It's hard to tell here but it's snowing.
Leaves are mostly gone.
Grass will be gone by morning.
Temps in the 30's. Dreary.

See a pattern here?

For some reason, I must have chosen not to look outside in October of 2009 because this is the only picture I have for the whole month.

 Pumpkins on my counter.

I thought it was a picture worth keeping.

But ... when I look back a little further to October 29th 2008......

Yea, more white on just about everything in the yard.
Temps in the 30's maybe reaching into the 40's by later that day.
Ugg.

But this is 2012.
It's time for a change.
So...
I'm holding out hope for this year.

You see....
It's supposed to be in the 70's tomorrow.
That's right, I said 70's.
In October.
In Upstate NY.

Which is why I'm choosing not to take a picture of my yard until tomorrow.
So..For now I'll leave you with these.

A pumpkin and a cannon.

A pumpkin, a pinecone, and a moose on an olive oil/vinegar jar
(sounds like the beginning of a bad joke).

  1. Kim,

Your pictures are so pretty! What a great idea! I need to take a picture of the back pasture in each of the four seasons!

Thanks so much for inspiring me today!

    1. Thanks for the kind words, Karianne. And as a simple update, the past few days have been pretty warm (not quite 70 though) and sunny. A bit on the windy side but that's ok as long as it's sunny.
