Shut the Front Door ... Day 88, 89, and 90 ... Can anyone tell my why nothing is done around here?

Helloooo everybody!
I took a couple of days off to try to get something done around here.
Guess what?
Nothing got done.
I still can't figure out why.
Seriously.
It's pathetic.

Anyway, Today is Easter.
So.........
Shut the Front Door.... Day 90!
HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!
I don't have any cute little bunnies or chicks to take pictures of so
you get to see my little mini daffodils set against a backdrop of snow banks.

So, lets see...
What did we miss over the past few days?

I saw my first robin (in my yard) yesterday.
Actually, there was about a dozen of them squabbling over a small patch of grass in the lawn this morning.

I did a little drive-by photography yesterday while I was out and about.
Maybe that's why nothing got done around here.
I wasn't home.
I wonder where the cows go?
Do they just step off the cliff when they get to the other side of the road?

Little old wagon.

I just noticed that there is a date on the trestle that spans over Maple Ave/Miller Rd in Holland Patent. I've taken pictures of this a few times without noticing the date of 1904.

I did some more drive-by photography the day before yesterday
while I was on a round about trip to Watertown and Syracuse.
Again ... might explain why I didn't get anything done around here.
Lewis Co. Marines

Poor old silo.

I took pictures of about 50 barns and lots of windmills along the way.

Finally arrived at the job site.
 Lots going on here.
Four big machines running at once,
lots of noise,
an unhealthy dose of cluelessness,
and more than a fair share of 4 letter words.

Kind of reminds me.
I have cleaning to do.

Happy Easter everyone!

Shut the Front Door ... Day 87 ... March...Lion, Lamb or Constipated Toad?

Well, they're saying that March came in like a lamb
and it's going to go out like a lamb.
Maybe so.
In my opinion, March sat around like a constipated toad on a stump.
It was miserable.
It was moody.
Oh wait.
Maybe that was me.

Anywho....
Day 87.
Another unhealthy dose of the usual doom and gloom.

And...
Today is Flat Stanley's last day here.
He has to hop on the mail truck so he can be back to school by Monday.

He got a little on the wild side today and joined in on the duck rodeo.
Never trust a duck with horns.

Then things quieted down a little when he decided to read
Beautiful Butterflies by Sue Whiting and Stuart Martin
Very pretty book with glittery butterflies.

Time to go.
Bye Stanley.
Come back again sometime.

Shut the Front Door ... Day 86 ... An accident waiting to happen.

I think today should go down in history.
It should be a new national holiday.
It should be looked back on as some sort of miraculous alignment of the planets.

It's the day my husband "ASKED" me if he could park the plow in front of the house.
He didn't just park it in the way with out asking if it was going to be in the way.

HE ASKED PERMISSION
to park the snowplow in front of the house.

ASKED.
PERMISSION.

Wait.
There's a plow in my parking spot.
KAPOW....yea I can see that happening.

Crap.
Did I say he could park the plow there?
I better review that conversation to find out just where things went wrong.
That whole asking permission thing must have thrown me off.

Huh.
Day 86
Clear and, surprisingly, not very cold today.
Cool and breezy.
Not cold and blustery.
Progress.
Yeaaa.

Oh yea,
Flat Stanley is still here.
He pretty much kept himself busy today.
What do jungle plants,
a secret agent disguise,
baseball bats,
dirty hand prints,
and random flying objects
have in common?
Nothing but that's pretty much how a great imagination works.

Shut the Front Door ... Day 84 and 85 ... Excuses, Excuses, Excuses and an Abused Teddy Bear.

I didn't get a post up yesterday because ... well, just because.
I've been really busy working on a few projects.
  • I have to get some furniture to replace a few empty spaces in my booth at Newport Market Place. It's amazing how empty a small space can feel when 2 large pieces of furniture disappear in the same day.
  • I've also mentioned that I'm moving into a larger booth space at Newport Market and I would like to have a line of consignment items to help fill that space. I'm looking for antiques, vintage items and some select furniture items to fill the booth up. If you have items that you would like to sell but don't want to bother with advertising or dragging stuff out to the garage for a sale, give me a buzz or drop me a line.
  • I'm also working on a cute little vanity makeover for a client.
  • And Flat Stanley is still here so I've been trying to keep him busy. Not an easy task for sure.
I'm not sure what Flat and Rocky were up to,
but that poor teddy looks like he's seen better days.

So...
Day 84
The random cloud looks a little like an airplane flying overhead.

and
Day 85
Don't let the sunshine fool you, it's still cold.

The moon early this evening.

Another busy day scheduled for tomorrow and this week is almost over.
Easter this weekend.
Next week is .... AHHHHHHH ... April already!!
Holy cow.
This year is flying by.
We'll see fall before spring ever decides to make an entrance.

Shut the Front Door ... Day 83 ... What spring fever looks like at my house.

Day 83
Mixture of gloom and sun and a bitter wind.
It's time for Old man winter and mother nature to take the boxing gloves off.

I'm beginning to think that this unfashionably late entrance of spring has finally taken a toll on Perry's brain.
Earlier this afternoon, I looked out and found him doing this.
Bulldozing snow in the middle of the field.

By the time he quit playing around, the field looked like this.
A huge pile of dirty snow.

"Why", I asked.
"Wyatt's birthday party is next weekend.
There will be a house full of people here.
Why did you have to plow up the clean white snow and leave a pile of mud"?

"So the kids will have a place to go sliding", he said.

I was like, "WHAT"!

Yea.

Anywhoo...
While spring fever was taking over Perry's mind, Flat Stanley and I were working on this.

Sneak peak of my next project.

So, what does your spring meltdown look like?

Shut the Front Door ... Day 82 ... Flat Stanley goes sight seeing.

If you tuned in to yesterday's post, you learned that Flat Stanly has come to visit for the week.
Yep, the whole week.
Yesterday, Flat helped to take the picture for yesterday's post and today it's his job to write the post for ... Day 82.

Once again,
take it away Flat Stanley!

Hello everyone.
My name is Flat Stanley and my best friend, Wyatt, sent me to visit his grandparents for the week so I can help out around the house.
Since blogging is such hard work, I volunteered to take over the keyboard for todays post.
Busted.

Uh, Flat, that's not working on the post.

So, Day 82
Grandpa started clearing the snow from the front yard because Wyatt's mom and dad think that it's time to put the pool back up.
Silly grownups.

Meanwhile, grandma and I went for a ride.
See that little blue house down there?
That's where Wyatt's great grandma and great grandpa live.

Today we went to Newport Market Place to drop of some more stuff at grandma's booth.

Grandma has a lot of stuff there.

On the way home we stopped to take a look at the Steuben Memorial Cabin.
There's too much snow to go walking up through there so we had to stay down by the road and look through the fence.
Wyatt's grandma said that this is where the local schools used to let kids have their class picnics.
They would have a picnic under the trees and play games on the huge lawn.
It was fun for them to get to learn about their local history and see how people lived way back when there was no TV, video games, lights, or indoor water and bathrooms.
She said that it's a shame more schools don't take advantage of this great learning experience anymore.

Well, it was fun writing this post up today.
Can't wait to see what we'll be doing tomorrow.

Shut the Front Door ... Day 81 ... Flat Stanley's in the house.

When you go to visiting, how do you travel?
Do you take a plane?
Do you take a train?
Perhaps you prefer to travel by car.

Well we have a visitor for the whole week and he arrived by the most efficient (debatable topic) method of transportation...
the U.S. Postal Service.

Yep, he arrived by mail.
Flat Stanley is officially in the house.
(Don't crush? It's a little late for that.)

I'm told that he is a work person,
a play person,
and that he was flattened by a falling bulletin board
(I wonder if that's a legitimate comp claim).
In other words, quite the catch.

Anyway...
Flat's first job assignment of the week is taking today's "Shut the Front Door" picture.

Take it away Flat Stanley.
Day 81
Dude!
You got your fingers in the picture.

Here, let me take the picture.
Photo bombed by Flat Stanley.

It's going to be a long week.

Shut the Front Door ... Day 79 and 80 ... The 1st and 2nd day of spring

Day 79
The first day of spring.
Why didn't I write this post up yesterday?
It was too depressing to look at these pictures of the...
FIRST DAY of SPRING.
The morning sun trying to peek through the clouds.

The snow bank along my driveway is as high as my car window.

Finally clear skies in the afternoon but for some reason it's still snowing.

Day 80
The first day after the first day of spring.
I took this from my upper deck.
Most of my "Shut the Front Door" pictures are taken from the lower level.
You can tell there is some snow falling from the clouds over the valley.

The snow banks at the top of the driveway are almost higher than my husband's truck.

How about some random drive-by pictures from the past week to cheer you me up?
As you look at these, you can see what a difference there is between my neighborhood and the communities 10-30 miles south of where I live.
My mail man used to say that Starr Hill in the winter is a different world all together.

It's hard to tell here but there is no front or back wall to that barn.
It's see thru.

Amish out spreading manure.

Bridge down by Little Falls.

 Cow barn.

Really freaky sunset.

Sap season.

Water trough in the Village of Barneveld.
Seriously old.

and...

Gnome tree house.

Maybe tomorrow.
